Vote for my master thesis

Guys, I need a help!!! I need a help!!! Seriously, I need to finish my thesis proposal before 8th December otherwise, I can't graduate on September next year.


I have couple of ideas in my head right now, but I am not sure if all of them are feasible and interesting to carry out. I talked to some of my friends already, but in the end, it would basically depend on how far the previous literatures have gone.

  1. How to measure a construct (e.g. metrosexuality, need for uniqueness, need for touch, etc) - but the construct hasn't been specified yet. The ones I mentioned as examples have been studied in the past.
  2. Pleasant smell has been proved to be much preferred by consumers, but in some skin care products, we often find the claim 'fragrance free'. Therefore, my idea is to research if it's really true that pleasant odor is still more preferred by consumers in cosmetic products.
  3. My previous idea is extended by combining some brand names (high quality brand such as Channel, Shiseido or Lancome vs. lower quality brand such as Rimmel, Maybeline. I am gonna study how pleasant smell can actually enhance brand equity (= how consumers see the brand).
  4. Another idea is to measure if highlighted text is much remembered or increase awareness of unfamiliar brands. (Practical implications would be in the field of advertising).
  5. A product with a lot of joined features such as printer with copy machine and fax machine or handphone with mp3 players are perceived as less robust and less quality (especially the compliment features - e.g if it's a cellphone with mp3 player, then the mp3 player will be regarded as having a lower quality)
  6. Using method of Persona (Impersonating your target consumers into one real person - e.g. persona --> my customer's name is Barbara, she is 23 year old, she is rebel, she is fun and spontaneous, She always wants something different from other. Barbara is the impersonation of your whole target customers) is more effective in product development phase. 
  7. Cause-related marketing (example of its implication= made one cent donation every time you one package of a product) can effectively enhance your positive brand image.
Some of my considerations on the above topics are:
  • For number one, I am sure it's gonna be a lot of hassle with the data collection. Screw SPSS!!! Above all, I don't know what construct I should measure yet!
  • For the topics related to smell, I found it a bit difficult to stimulate the respondents with smell as I am thinking of collecting the data by the means of questionnaires. But, I really really want to do either of them.
  • As for cause-related marketing, it is kinda 'last-year topic', I am not sure if there if left for me to do.
If only I could skip the whole thesis thing......... I heard students in Australia and Canada don't have to write theses!!! I am so so so mad about that! It's so unfair. 
I wish I could just go to the future and had my defense right away! It's so sad though, my parents would not be here on the day I am having a defense. I probably will just invite my housemate and my boyfriend to come and support me. 

Hehehe.... ok, enough imagining things...think about your thesis topic first!!!!
I am hoping that this guy will be my thesis supervisor (crossing fingers).
